Returning to using the online learning system evidently did not lower the enthusiasm of Indonesian students to continue their studies abroad. It is proven by the high interest of participants in the webinar entitled “Study Abroad: Ticket to Get the Best Preparation”. The webinar was organized by the President University Major Association (PUMA) Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PSTE), Saturday (7/8) was attended not only by university students but also high school students. This webinar presented two speakers, Yogi Saputra Mahmud, S.Pd., M.TESOL, a lecturer of PSTE Study Program, President University (PresUniv), and Muhammad Dhafi Iskandar, who is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration at IPAG Business School, Paris.

There are three advantages of studying abroad, as stated by Yogi in his material. Among them, are practicing self-development such as being more independent and not dependent on parents, promising career prospects in the future, and providing different experiences and perspectives. Yogi also shared his experience while studying at Monash University, Australia. “There are some learning differences. For example, about attendance. For some study programs, attendance is not very important. Thesis and dissertation abroad are also more flexible. Students abroad are also more courageous in expressing their opinions,” he said. According to Yogi, this situation occurs because the positions of lecturers and students are considered equal overseas.

Meanwhile, in his presentation, Dhafi shared tips on how he can have an education in Paris. According to him, students should start to find out their weaknesses and strengths and then make long-term plans, for example, for the next five years. In addition, Dhafi also suggested that they be brave enough to accept challenges and start improving communication skills. He explained, “This is very important, especially during the interview stage. Good communication skills are needed so that the destination university is convinced and willing to accept.” Dhafi also said that communication skills could be polished over time. The requirement is that students must be willing to get out of their comfort zone.  (Steven Chaniago. Photo: Steven).
