The 9th President International Model United Nations (PresMUN) with the theme "The Beginning of the End: Countries Fate Inside the Labyrinth of Global Conflict" was successfully held from Friday (12/4) to Sunday (12/6). This year, PresMUN succeeded in reaching African delegations to participate in this event. The PresMUN event has been held since 2011. In 2020, the word "international" is added to expand the scope of delegation to Africa and Europe. Rey Abraham, Secretary-General of PresMUN 2020 said that 90 delegates from various countries attended this event, namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Timor Leste, to Nigeria.
PresMUN 2020 was divided into three sessions, namely webinar, committee sessions, and awarding session. The webinar, which was held on Friday (4/12), discussed ASEAN economic recovery by presenting two economic experts as speakers. At the committee session, PresMUN presented six councils, namely the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD), International Labor Organization (ILO), Crisis Committee, and United Nations Correspondent Associations. With different themes in each council, the delegates discussed the fate of the country amid international conflicts and found the best resolution.
At the closing ceremony, PresMUN gave appreciation to the participants. Some of them are Verbal Commendation, Best Position Paper, Most Outstanding Delegate, Honorable Mention, and Best Delegate. "This award is given to delegates who have shown brilliant public speaking and debating skills during the session," said Rey. With the end of PresMUN 2020, Rey hopes that PresMUN 2021 can be done even better and can escalate the target of achievements from this year. (PT/SD)
PresMUN 2020 Jangkau Peserta Hingga Afrika
President International Model United Nations (PresMUN) ke-9 dengan tema “Awal dari Akhir: Nasib Negara di Dalam Labirin Konflik Global” sukses digelar pada Jumat (4/12) hingga Minggu (6/12). Tahun ini, PresMUN berhasil menjangkau delegasi Afrika untuk ikut serta dalam ajang ini. Ajang PresMUN sudah digelar sejak tahun 2011. Untuk tahun 2020 ditambahkan kata “international” dengan tujuan memperluas cakupan delegasi hingga Afrika dan Eropa. Rey Abraham, Sekretaris Jenderal PresMUN 2020, mengungkapkan bahwa 90 delegasi dari berbagai negara hadir dalam ajang ini. Misalya, dari Malaysia, Filipina, Timor Leste, hingga Nigeria.
PresMUN 2020 dibagi menjadi tiga sesi, yaitu webinar, sesi komite, dan sesi pemberian penghargaan. Webinar yang digelar Jumat (4/12), membahas pemulihan ekonomi ASEAN dengan menghadirkan pembicara dua ahli ekonomi. Pada sesi komite, PresMUN menyajikan enam dewan, yaitu United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Comission on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD), International Labour Organization (ILO), Crisis Committee, dan United Nations Correspondent Associations. Dengan tema berbeda di setiap dewan, para delegasi mendiskusikan nasib negara di tengah konflik internasional serta menemukan resolusi terbaik.
Sebagai penutup acara, PresMUN memberikan apresiasi. Beberapa diantaranya, Verbal Commendation, Best Position Paper, Most Outstanding Delegate, Honorable Mention, dan Best Delegate. “Penghargaan ini diberikan kepada delegasi yang telah menunjukkan kemampuan public speaking serta keterampilan debat yang brilian selama sesi berlangsung,” ujar Rey. Dengan berakhirnya PresMUN 2020, Rey berharap PresMUN 2021 dapat dilakukan dengan lebih baik lagi serta dapat menaikkan semua target pencapaian dari tahun ini. (PT/SD)
