What's happening in PresUniv

Published: 02 Nov 2020

Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit approximately 8 months ago, learning, work, seminars, and even worship activities have been held online. With all activities moving online, of course most of the time is spent staring at computer screens, cell phones, and other gadgets. This in turn leads to concerns about eye health, where the blue light on the gadget can damage the retina.

This eye health was further discussed by President University in a webinar entitled "The Increasing Use of Gadgets during the Pandemic: How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy". In collaboration with Lions Club South Jakarta Sentra Bisnis, a non-governmental organization, President University invited dr. Yulinda Indarnila Soemiatno, SpM (K), a Consultant for Children's Eye Health & Squint Eyes as the speaker.

On this occasion, dr. Yulinda highlighted the importance of resting your eyes in the midst of online activities. "We can follow the 20-20-20 rule. After 20 minutes of staring at the gadget screen, please avert your eyes or see an object 20 feet away or the equivalent of 6 meters for 20 seconds," she said.

She also mentioned that we often don't get the signs that our eyes are tired, the symptoms are including dry eyes, redness, and shadowing.

Apart from the presentation from dr. Yulinda, this webinar also invited dr. Milzan Murtadha, Manager of Lions Eye Bank Jakarta to explain about eye cornea bank. This information also attracted the attention of the participants, where previously many of the participants were not familiar with cornea bank and corneal donors.

On a different occasion, Chrisanny Agussyl, Head of the President University Alumni Bureau, as the person in charge of the event, said that this webinar was carried out in collaboration with alumni of President University, where one of our alumni are members of the Jakarta Lions Club. Furthermore, Chrisanny also invited other President University alumni to share their experiences or knowledge with President University students. "Not only through guest lectures, alumni can become speakers in various webinars held by President University, where the participants are not only from among students, but also open to the public," she concluded.

The Increasing Use of Gadgets during the Pandemic: How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy". Berkolaborasi dengan Lions Club Jakarta Selatan Sentra Bisnis, sebuah organisasi non-pemerintah, President University menghadirkan dr. Yulinda Indarnila Soemiatno, SpM(K), seorang Konsultan Kesehatan Mata Anak & Mata Juling sebagai pembicara.

Dalam kesempatan ini, dr. Yulinda menggarisbawahi pentingnya mengistirahatkan mata di tengah kegiatan daring. “Kita bias mengikuti aturan 20-20-20.
