The Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, at President University (Presuniv), visited PT Sharp Electronic Indonesia (SEI) in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC), East Telukjambe, Karawang, on Friday, March 8, 2024. Taking part in the visit were the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr.-Ing Erwin Sitompul, M.Sc., Head of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Dr.Eng Lydia Anggraini, ST, M.Eng., Director of the Internship & Career Center and Communications JB Susetiyo, as well as several other staff members. The Presuniv team was welcomed by Gandhi Satya Mahardika, Section Head of People Development at SEI, Maman Rudiaman, People Development-HRD Training at SEI, Kemal Ifsantin Firdaus, also from SEI's People Development, and Dian Kurniawan, a technician at SEI.

            During the visit, the SEI team shared the history of the Sharp corporation, which began in a metal workshop in 1924 and invented the first snap belt buckle called Tokubijo. "One of Sharp's legendary products is the Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil. This product later became the company name: Sharp," explained Gandhi. He also elaborated on several other significant innovations by Sharp, such as integrating cameras into cellphones. Sharp manufactures washing machines, radios, TVs, refrigerators, ACs, microwaves, and also acquired Toshiba's personal computer business, subsequently rebranding it as Dynabook. After an explanation of the various production facilities in Karawang, the PresUniv party was then shown the washing machine manufacturing factory and the visit concluded with a question and answer session.
