On Friday, November 17, 2023, the Internship and Career Center (ICC) Bureau at President University (Presuniv), in collaboration with faculty members and staff from multiple departments, organized a discussion focusing on Generation Z (Gen Z). The midday discussion featured two speakers from the Counseling Bureau, namely Haris Herdiansyah and Retno W. Hernawati. Through this discussion, the faculty members and staff at Presuniv aimed to better understand the characteristics of their students, who are predominantly Gen Z students, so that they can educate them more effectively in the future.

During the discussion, Retno explained the role of the Counseling Bureau and the various cases they handle. She stated, "The cases faced by students are diverse, but the most common ones involve choosing a concentration in their study program, issues related to specialization in the workforce, or continuing their studies." Retno also highlighted other cases, such as overprotective parents or family members, bullying, and several others.

Meanwhile, Haris provided more detailed insights into the characteristics of Gen Z. He explained, "Gen Z is a digital native. From a young age, they have broad access to the internet, smartphones, social media, and other digital technologies. Almost 90% of their time is spent interacting with gadgets." Haris further described their preference for instant, practical, and fast solutions, heavy dependence on technology, and a broader online social circle. He also elaborated on some other characteristics of Gen Z, such as susceptibility to mental health issues, less resilience in the real world, requiring more time for social interactions, and being less persistent and patient. "So, when Gen Z opens up, we need to be careful and not jump to conclusions too quickly," he emphasized. (JB Susetiyo, PR team. Photo: JB Susetiyo)
