Dr. Jeanne Francoise, lecturer in the International Relations Study Program (Prodi), President University (Presuniv), was one of the speakers at the international seminar Post Indonesia's Leadership for ASEAN 2023 Political Economy and International Trade. This seminar was held Thursday, November 16 2023, at the Resinda Hotel Ballroom, Karawang, West Java. The seminar which discussed international, political and economic issues in ASEAN, as well as Indonesia's candidacy as Chair of ASEAN was attended by dr. Cellica Nurrachadiana, Regent of Karawang (2021-2023), Carolina Tinangon as Secretary of the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Moses Li Zhinxin as Business Development Partnership.
In her presentation, Jeanne discussed the economic and social benefits of investing in ASEAN defense cooperation. Apart from that, Jeanne also discussed the roots of ASEAN defense cooperation which is more about the formation of ASEAN as a historical and cultural unity. Not a defense pact. That's why ASEAN has never intervened militarily. "The definition of defense for ASEAN is more about peace dialogue and work programs for the prevention of war," stressed Jeanne. In the future, he hopes that ASEAN defense cooperation will become stronger.
