The 2022 International Conference on Family Business and Entrepreneurship (ICFBE) discussed various issues related to family businesses. Dr. Jacob Tan, an academic family business consultant from Pelita Harapan University, and Dr. Anton Wachidin Widjaja, Head of the Master of Technology Management Study Program, PresUniv spoke on the issues facing family businesses.

Jacob discussed the challenges of improving the governance of a family business and the related issues. "What are they worried about, how to deal with internal conflict, and strategies to reduce it," said Jacob. According to him, family businesses that are managed systematically are more able to survive during the pandemic. In addition, family traditions or values ??are the foundations that determine the longetivity and success of a family business. Jacob also emphasized the need for written values ??which will become the constitution of the family. "It's not easy, but it's important for reconciliation, maintaining harmony and improving the dynamics of the family business."

Meanwhile, Anton discussed social capital, namely the bonds that are made between family members and non-family members. This social capital is divided into three types, namely bonding social capital, bridging social capital and linking social capital. He said, "For a family business that has a unique type of bonding social capital, it is called family social capital." (Silvia Desi Betrice, PR team. Photo: Silvia)
