The Alpha Team from the Industrial Engineering Study Program, President University (PresUniv), batch 2019, won third place in the Ecopreneur Diponegoro National Innovation Business Plan Competition, Sunday (21/11). This competition was organized by the Faculty of Business Economics, Diponegoro University, and was participated by more than 40 teams who were active students from all universities in Indonesia. The Alpha team, consisting of Bernadeta Holly Ayuningrum, Fina Dyah Setyaningrum, and Sophia Margareth Tobing, also received the category of Warmnest Team Ecopreneur 2021.

In this competition, the Alpha team made a business plan for Zero Waste Mask Seeds, namely biodegradable masks or environmentally friendly masks. Bernadeta said that the product was inspired by one of the main problems currently being experienced globally, namely the negative impact of the disposal of medical mask waste that is not appropriately handled. According to him, medical mask waste harms the environment because it takes a very long time to decompose. “That problem prompted us to innovate, designing a business plan for a mask product made from sugarcane bagasse cellulose fiber. The dregs of this plant have the biodegradable characteristic that can be decomposed in the soil easily,” explained Bernadeta.

In addition, Bernadeta also said that the inside of the mask layer they designed could also be inserted with plant seeds which can later grow when planted. Not only that, through this business plan, the PresUniv team also hopes that their idea can have a positive impact on marine life. “Hopefully, our idea can also reduce marine debris that often traps marine animals. So marine life can be maintained," she concluded. (Silvia Desi Betrice, PR team. Photo: Bernadeta)
