Wednesday (11/8) Southeast Asia Lecture Hall, in collaboration with several domestic and foreign universities, including President University (PresUniv), held an international class discussing Indo-Pacific Cooperation. The classes were brought by Prof. Amitav Acharya, a well-known professor from the School of International Service, American University, and attended by more than a thousand participants.

Indo-Pacific cooperation is based on the science of Global International Relations. This collaboration aimed to challenge western domination in international relations, including theories such as realism and liberalism, not using European but world history, study regional and global history, use non-western society institutions, and focus on the exchange of ideas gained through learning from one another.

Acharya said, “Indo-Pacific Cooperation is a concept created for cooperation between countries in Southeast Asia. This concept is based on the principles of openness, transparency and inclusion, friendship, and upholding international law.” Indonesia initially initiated Indo-Pacific cooperation at the Asian Relations Conferences in 1947 and 1949, which continued in the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung (1955), and finally, the Indo-Pacific Treaty (2013). Indo-Pacific cooperation is expected to create a new mechanism, with the participation of ASEAN member countries, on specific issues, such as the economy, climate, and health.
