The impact of the Coronavirus pandemic is still felt in Indonesia. Government policies regarding the implementation of Work from Home (WFH) are still in force. But how much do policies for working and learning from home affect the level of productivity and quality, especially in the aspect of education?
On May 19, 2020, President University had the opportunity to be the guest speaker in a new program that was presented by Smart FM called, "Smart Learning Time with President University". Handa S. Abidin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., the Vice-Rector for Communication and Partnership together with M. Rizki Muhsin, Mechanical Engineering student President University and General Chairperson of Hipmi PT Bekasi Regency 2020-2023, become the representative of President University as guest speakers in the program.
The topic in the program begins with a discussion of what is felt by students during the implementation of WFH which has been running for approximately 3 months. Responding to this question Rizki explained that the impact was felt especially in learning soft skills such as leadership in an organization.
Then Handa added that behind the negative side of the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic there are positive things that we can see, namely, both students and teachers inevitably become more knowledgeable about technology. Besides that, WFH allocates the time we normally spent traveling from one place to another for more productive activities.
The safety and quality of education for students and lecturers are two things that become the top priority for President University. Therefore, in the teaching and learning process, nothing has changed in terms of SKS or Semester Credit Units and quality. It's just that the current learning system is entirely focused on becoming online lectures. Because basically, President University has implemented an offline and online system in the curriculum.
Speaking of the curriculum, President University has a curriculum "Beyond Courses" with the objective of producing leaders who care not only about themselves but also others even outside campus. As an international campus in Indonesia, the application of an international curriculum and having a large number of foreign students can shape a multicultural mindset and a global perspective.
Regarding the abolition of the National Examination (UN), President University continues to implement the Final Semester Examination, the majority of which was conducted in the form of a project. Project-based learning is also a system that was implemented by President University long before the Coronavirus pandemic occurred.
"I hope that we, millennial generation or young people will continue to have the desire to learn whatever the conditions that are happening," said Rizki.
Having a "Growth Mindset" is needed especially in this condition to survive while many things in many aspects change. In addition to quickly adapting to change, we must be vigilant but still think positive. In addition, it is important for us to have productive activities that also make us happy.
"Keep thinking positive, adaptive, and systematic, especially in dealing with the condition of the Coronavirus pandemic," Handa added. (ZA/SL)
President University menjadi Narasumber Radio Smart FM: Growth Mindset di Tengah Pandemi
Dampak dari adanya pandemi virus Corona masih terasa di Indonesia. Kebijakan Pemerintah mengenai penerapan Work from Home (WFH) hingga saat ini masih diberlakukan. Namun apakah kebijakan untuk bekerja dan belajar dari rumah dapat mepengaruhi tingkat produktifitas dan kualitas khususnya dalam aspek pendidikan?
Pada 19 Mei 2020, President University berkesempatan untuk menjadi pembicara tamu dalam sebuah program baru yang dihadirkan oleh Smart FM yaitu, “Smart Learning Time with President University”. Handa S. Abidin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D, Wakil Rektor Bidang Komunikasi dan Kerjasama bersama dengan M. Rizki Muhsin, mahasiswa Teknik Mesin President University dan Ketua Umum Hipmi PT Kabupaten Bekasi 2020-2023, mewakili President University sebagai pembicara tamu dalam program tersebut.
Acara diawali dengan penjelasan-penjelasan mengenai dampak yang dirasakan oleh mahasiswa dan pendidik selama kegiatan pembelajaran daring di rumah dan bekerja di rumah, salah satunya bahwa penguasaan teknologi menjadi sangat penting bagi dosen dan mahasiswa untuk mendukung proses kegiatan belajar mengajar.
Ditanya soal kualitas pembelajaran daring di President University, Handa mengungkapkan, “Keselamatan dan kualitas pendidikan bagi para mahasiswa dan pengajar adalah dua hal yang menjadi proritas utama bagi President University. Maka dari itu, dalam proses belajar mengajar tidak ada yang berubah, dari segi Satuan Kredit Semester (SKS) dan kualitas.” Ia melanjutkan, yang berubah hanyalah sistem pembelajaran yang saat ini seluruhnya difokuskan menjadi kuliah daring karena pada dasarnya President University sudah penerapan sistem offline dan online dalam kurikulum yang selama ini dijalankan.
Berbicara mengenai kurikulum, President University memiliki kurikulum yang disebut “Beyond Courses”. Hal ini memungkinnya untuk mencetak pemimpin yang mampu mempraktekkan setiap pelajaran di kelas ke dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Mahasiswa diajarkan untuk tidak hanya peduli dengan diri sendiri namun juga dengan orang lain. Selain itu, sebagai kampus internasional di Indonesia, penerapan kurikulum international dan banyaknya mahasiswa asing dapat membentuk pola pikir multikultural dan cara pandang global.
Menyinggung soal Ujian Nasional (UN) yang dihapuskan, President University tetap melaksanakan Ujian Akhir Semester yang mayoritas dilakukan dalam bentuk proyek. Pembelajaran berbasis proyek (Project-Based Learning) tersebut juga merupakan sistem yang sudah diterapkan oleh President University jauh sebelum pandemi COVID-19 terjadi.
Handa dan Rizki sepakat bahwa kecepatan adaptasi menjadi salah satu faktor utama untuk tetap produktif di tengah pandemi. Memiliki "Growth Mindset" diperlukan terutama dalam kondisi ini untuk bertahan hidup sementara banyak hal dalam banyak aspek berubah. “Saya berharap agar kita, kaum milenial maupun generasi muda terus memiliki keinginan untuk belajar apapun kondisi yang sedang terjadi,” ujar Rizki. Handa juga menyebutkan waspada itu penting, tetapi setiap kita juga harus berpikir positif. Penting untuk melakukan hal-hal produktif yang membuat kita bahagia “Tetap terus berpikir positif, adaptif, dan sistematis khususnya dalam menghadapi kondisi pandemi virus Corona ini,” tutup Handa.
