During the course of one month where Work from Home (WFH) activities have been exercised by President University, many of its lectures decided to utilize this opportunity for better goods. To name one of them is by enhancing their students and their own competence by attending online courses in Coursera, an online platform that provides online courses from well-known universities across the world.
After establishing a partnership with Coursera, lecturers and students of President University can now access hundreds of online courses for free. Not only the students, but the lecturers also joined various online courses from top universities to expand their insights.
One of the lecturers from the Faculty of Computing of President University, Ronny Juwono, M.T., mentioned that the learning material provided in Coursera are those of good quality. "I have attended two online courses from University of Illinois and Michigan State University where both programming courses are technical. The learning materials are outstanding. To do the assignments or quiz, we have to read the instructions carefully, if not, the assignments might not be able to be submitted successfully," Ronny explained.
Because Coursera online courses demand independent learning from its users, Ronny combined Coursera with eCampus so that interaction between lecturers and students can still take place.
Not only learning material, Ronny stated that by taking online courses in Coursera, he expanded his knowledge as a lecturer. "We can learn how other lecturers explained difficult technical terms to students so that they would be easily understood by the students," he explained.
In line with Ronny, the Head of Mechanical Engineering Study Program at President University Dr.Eng. Lydia Anggraini, S.T., M.T., said that Coursera is a professional platform. "Coursera is attractive for providing a variety of online courses specifically tailored to the students' needs. The learning materials are short yet compact. The assignments and quizzes also have quite good standard, therefore students cannot proceed to the next learning material before they pass the previous ones," Lydia explained.
Lydia also stated that aside from being beneficial for higher education learning purposes, Coursera is also beneficial to acquire various skill certificates, especially those within the engineering sector that are useful for a lecturer's career. (SL/APW)
Tingkatkan Kompetensi Dosen di Tengah Kegiatan Work from Home
Bekerja dari rumah (work from home) yang telah berjalan selama kurang lebih satu bulan di President University telah dimanfaatkan para dosen untuk melakukan berbagai hal positif. Salah satunya meningkatkan kompetensi diri dan mahasiswanya dengan mengikuti berbagai kelas online di Coursera, sebuah paltfrom penyedia kelas online dari universitas ternama dunia.
Telah bekerja sama dengan Coursera, dosen dan mahasiswa President University dapat mengakses ratusan materi secara gratis. Tidak hanya mahasiswa, para dosen juga mengikuti berbagai kelas dari universitas ternama untuk terus memperbaharui pengetahuan mereka.
Salah satu dosen Fakultas Komputer President University, Ronny Juwono, M.T., mengungkapkan materi pembelajaran di Coursera kualitasnya sangat baik. “Saya sudah mengikuti dua kelas dari University of Illinois dan Michigan State University yang keduanya bersifat teknis, yaitu kelas programming. Materinya sangat bagus. Untuk mengerjakan tugas dan quiz, kita harus membaca instruksi dengan teliti, jika tidak, tugas akan gagal dikumpulkan,” ujar Ronny.
Karena Coursera pembelajarannya bersifat mandiri, Ronny mengkombinasikan Coursera dengan eCampus agar interaksi antara dosen dan mahasiswa tetap terjalin.
Tidak hanya materi, Ronny mengungkapkan mengikuti pembelajaran di Coursera menambah wawasan sebagai dosen. “Kita bisa mempelajari bagaimana dosen lain menjelaskan hal-hal teknis dan sulit menjadi lebih mudah dimengerti oleh mahasiswa,” jelasnya.
Senada dengan Ronny, Kepala Program Studi Teknik Mesin President University Dr.Eng. Lydia Anggraini, S.T., M.T., mengungkapkan bahwa Coursera merupakan platform profesional. “Coursera ini menarik karena menyediakan berbagai kelas yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa. Isi materi juga singkat namun padat. Quiz dan ujiannya juga memiliki standar yang cukup baik, sehingga peserta tidak akan melanjutkan ke materi selanjutnya jika materi yang lama belum lulus ujiannya,” jelas Lydia.
Lydia juga mengungkapkan bahwa selain bermanfaat untuk perkuliahan, Coursera juga bermanfaat untuk mendapatkan berbagai sertifikat keahlian, khususnya di bidang Teknik yang berguna bagi karir seorang dosen. (SL/APW)
