The Indonesian government's call for Physical Distancing and study from home was responded well by President University. Since March 16, 2020, President University has established the online learning system for all undergraduate and postgraduate study programs that brought a number of changes to the learning process. This change was felt by Communication Studies students batch 2017 who are running a collaborative project of three subjects namely PR Research and Evaluation, PR Production, and Event Management.

In this period of time, the student's creativity in facing a crisis is tested. An event project that was initially planned to be held offline had to be transformed entirely into an online event due to the COVID-19 crisis. After a very thorough brainstorming session to keep conducting this event well, a creative student platform named Communication Stride (CommStride) was established to realize anti-passive action through communication.

Related to many cases of environmental issues and the spread of Coronavirus. The students of Communications Program voiced the importance of maintaining their own health and preservation of the earth through the hashtag #JagaDiriJagaBumi.

Melinda Stefani as Project Manager explained that the system changes at this event required them to change the series of events to be online-based. For example, they hold online events such as educational content publications and contests/challenges through Kompasiana, Medium and social media, namely Line, Twitter, TikTok, dan Instagram (@commstride).

"Because of the social media content at this event is the main event, our focus is really on social media. We have to think more to produce contents that are in line with the current issue and interesting to the audience at the same time," said Natasya Aline, who responsible of social media content.

"The challenge in transforming this event into an online one lies on the publication schedule intensity that had gotten significantly higher as we had to post everyday. Then, we also had to look for ideas for our publication content, making sure that they would be interesting and beneficial for the audience to create high engagement," she added.

The series of competition that was held by CommStride had ended on 12 April 2020 as it managed to attract the attention of many netizens. Without a doubt, this event has become a very good platform for students to be more aware of environmental issues and particularly supporting the government's movement #dirumahaja. Through this event, the students also encouraged the people to keep contributing environmental issues' advocacy even though they stayed at home. (ZA/SL)


 

Study from Home ala Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi, CommStride Buat Event Online

Imbauan pemerintah Indonesia mengenai physical distancing dan belajar dari rumah direspon dengan baik oleh President University. Sejak tanggal 16 Maret 2020, President University telah menetapkan diberlakukannya sistem online learning yang membawa beberapa perubahan pada program belajar. Perubahan ini salah satunya dirasakan oleh para mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi angkatan 2017 yang tengah menjalankan sebuah proyek kolaborasi dari tiga mata kuliah yaitu PR Research and Evaluation, PR Production, dan Event Management.

Dalam masa ini, kekreatifan mahasiswa diuji saat menghadapi krisis. Sebuah proyek acara yang mulanya direncanakan secara offline harus diubah total menjadi online karena adanya pandemi COVID-19. Memutar otak untuk tetap menjalankan acara dengan baik, sebuah wadah kreativitas mahasiswa bernama Communication Stride (Commstride) dibentuk untuk mewujudkan aksi anti pasif melalui komunikasi.

Terkait banyaknya kasus kerusakan bumi dan penyebaran COVID-19, mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi menyuarakan pentingnya menjaga kesehatan diri sendiri dan kelestarian bumi melalui tagar #JagaDiriJagaBumi.

Melinda Stefani selaku ketua pelaksana menjelaskan bahwa perubahan sistem pada event ini mengharuskan mereka untuk mengubah rangkaian-rangkaian dari event tersebut menjadi berbasis online. Contohnya, mereka mengadakan event online seperti publikasi konten edukasi dan lomba/challenge melalui Kompasiana, Medium, dan media sosial yaitu Line, Twitter, TikTok, dan Instagram (@commstride).

“Karena konten-konten di event ini bukan hanya sekedar ‘peramai’ event melainkan event utamanya, maka fokus kami benar-benar ke media sosial. Kami harus berpikir ekstra untuk membuat konten yang sesuai dengan issue yang sedang terjadi sekaligus menarik bagi audiens,” ujar Natasya Aline, salah satu penanggung jawab konten media sosial.

“Tantangan dari perubahan sistem event ini adalah intensitas waktu publikasi yang menjadi sangat sering yaitu setiap hari. Lalu, mencari ide dari masing-masing konten yang menarik sekaligus bermanfaat bagi audiens sehingga akan mendapatkan engagement yang tinggi,” imbuhnya.

Rangkaian kompetisi yang diadakan Commstride telah berakhir 12 April 2020 lalu dan berhasil menarik banyak partisipasi warga net. Tentunya ini menjadi kegiatan yang baik bagi mahasiswa untuk peduli terhadap lingkungan dan mendukung program pemerintah #dirumahaja. Melalui kegiatan ini juga mereka memberikan imbauan bagi masyarakat untuk tetap bisa berkontribusi terhadap perbaikan iklim walau hanya diam di rumah.

Commstride sendiri merasa diuntungkan dengan event berbasis online ini. Dengan pemerintah menggalakkan #DirumahAja, itu menjadi dukungan untuk aksi mereka dan imbauan bagi masyarakat untuk tetap bisa berkontribusi terhadap perbaikan iklim walau hanya diam di rumah. (ZA/SL)
