The Faculty of Engineering of President University successfully held the “Technology and Science in Life (TSL) 2020”, its annual event, a collaboration between the lecturers and the students of Engineering at President University recently.
Introducing the theme “The New Revolution of Technology”, this event was held to increase awareness about the importance of technological innovation among high school and vocational school students across Indonesia. Aside from that, this event also supported them to showcase their innovative inventions within the technology and science field. The competed sub-themes were Fundamental Electronic, Product Design for Diffabel, Pollution Prevention Technology, Mechatronics, and Engineerial Material from Local Waste.
In this competition, the students were prepared to face Industry 4.0 by creating innovative products and sending the proposal to the committee of TSL. The best six teams were invited to the final day of TSL 2020 on 20 February 2020 to present and demonstrate their product. One of the teams that attracted the attention of the juries and managed to win the competition was the team from SMKN 2 Palembang. The team that calls themselves Tim Expert created the “smart glasses”, a pair of glasses that is specifically designed for engineers. Not only it protects the eyes during welding, but the smart glasses also serves as flashlight, magnifying glass, and also display time information.
Aside from the competition, TSL 2020 also consisted of a national seminar that invited the Founder & CEO of Warung Sains Teknologi, Abdul Hakim and Politeknik Manufaktur Astra, Gregorius Giga Abdipatria to discuss current revolutions of technology.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at President University Dr.-Ing. Erwin Parasian Sitompul, M.Sc. expressed how happy and proud he is with TSL 2020. “For the Faculty of Engineering, this event is one of the realizations of community service activities especially toward high schools and vocational schools, by conducting public lectures, workshop, and seminar within the entire TSL agenda,” he said.
Erwin also hoped that this event could inspire many people to continuously contribute to the development of technology for the betterment of the future. (NG/APW/SL/Photos: TSL 2020)
TSL 2020: The New Revolution of Technology
Fakultas Teknik President University sukses menggelar “Technology and Science in Life (TSL) 2020”, acara tahunan Fakultas Teknik hasil kolaborasi dosen dan mahasiswa Teknik di President University pekan lalu.
Mengangkat tema “The New Revolution of Technology”, acara ini diselenggarakan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya inovasi dalam teknologi di kalangan siswa-siswi SMA/SMK di seluruh Indonesia. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga mendukung mereka untuk menampilkan penemuan-penemuan inovatif dalam bidang ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Adapun sub tema yang diperlombakan adalah Elektronika Dasar, Desain Produk untuk Difabel, Teknologi Pencegahan Polusi, Mekatronik, dan Bahan Rekayasa Dari Limbah Lokal.
Dalam kompetisi ini, siswa-siswi SMA/SMK dipersiapkan untuk menghadapi Industri 4.0 dengan membuat sebuah produk inovatif dan mengirimkan proposalnya kepada panitia TSL. Enam tim terbaik diundang ke Final Day TSL 2020 yang jatuh pada 20 Februari 2020 untuk mempresentasikan dan mendemonstrasikan produk yang mereka buat. Salah satu yang menarik para juri dan berhasil keluar menjadi juara adalah tim asal SMKN 2 Palembang.Tim yang menamai diri mereka Tim Expert membuat produk “smart glasses”, sebuah kacamata yang di desain khusus untuk para engineer. Bukan hanya sekedar melindungi mata saat proses pengelasan, kacamata pintar karya mereka ini juga mampu menjadi penerang, kaca pembesar, sekaligus dapat menampilkan keterangan waktu.
Selain kompetisi, TSL 2020 juga mengadakan seminar nasional yang menghadirkan Founder&CEO Warung Sains Teknologi, Abdul Hakim dan Politeknik Manufaktur Astra, Gregorius Giga Abdipatria untuk membahas revolusi-revolusi terkini dari teknologi.
Dekan Fakultas Teknik President University Dr.-Ing. Erwin Parasian Sitompul, M.Sc. mengungkapkan bahwa dirinya gembira dan bangga dengan adanya TSL 2020. “Bagi Fakultas Teknik, kegiatan ini adalah salah satu wujud pengabdian kepada masyarakat terhadap lingkungan sekitar, terutama sekolah-sekolah menengah atas, melalui penyebaran ilmu pengetahuan melalui kuliah umum, workshop, dan seminar, yang termasuk dalam rangkaian acara TSL,” ujarnya.
Erwin juga berharap acara ini dapat menginspirasi berbagai kalangan untuk terus berkarya dan mengembangkan teknologi guna kehidupan masa depan yang lebih baik. (NG/SL)
