As a university with an international environment, President University has students who come from various regions in and outside Indonesia. The diversity that these students have has become a challenge for President University students to be able to appreciate and respect their respective cultures. With the aim of uniting students in diversity, the President University Student Union (PUSU) held an event named "Cultural Festival". The event was held at Holywood Junction, Jababeka on Saturday (10/26) and was attended by students, lecturers of President University, and The Assistant Attaché of Educations of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Indonesia Ermelindo das Neves Mendonça.

On this occasion, the international students of President University presented a cultural performance in order to introduce their culture to the audience. In this event, President University's international students presented their culture in order to introduce them to the audience. They performed various arts such as folk songs, traditional dances, traditional clothes fashion show, and sold a variety of traditional foods. The musical drama performed by a joint team of Indonesian and international students as the peak performance also added the excitement of the Cultural Festival.

“Because we live side by side in this university, I hope all students can appreciate and respect each other's culture. For that reason, I chose ‘Embracing the Culture’ as the theme of this year’s cultural festival,” said the Project Manager of this event Leonor Ribeiro who is an international student from Timor Leste majoring in Accounting batch 2018.

Furthermore, Leonor explained that she perceives the cultural differences as something that can unite all students at President University. She argues that to accept differences, we need to know and understand each other’s culture first and this is the reason why this cultural festival was held.

The Cultural Festival was closed by inviting participants and the audience to dance a traditional Timorese dance. With the togetherness being shown in the festival, this event has successfully grabbed people’s attention and left a deep impression on them. (MS/SL)
