A drop of our blood is meaningful for others. In response to the high numbers of natural disasters that have been happening within the past few months, the students of President University Communication Study Program in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross Society (IRCS) organized a blood drive. Located at President University, the event was attended by all members of President University as well as local residents.
“I hope this blood drive event can be a place to share good will and good deeds,” said Jasmine Afridanti (19), the project manager of the event.
Theresa Karlianti, the Chairperson of President University Major Association (PUMA) Communications, explained that in the future, PUMA Communications plans to continue the collaboration with IRCS looking at how beneficial the event is for the donors, IRCS, and also PUMA Communications. Not only sharing good deeds, donating blood can also improve blood circulation and increase body health. These benefits are the reasons why Theresa hopes to continue this event in the following years.
Referring to WHO’s report, Theresa added that the blood demand in Indonesia accounts to 2% of the total population or the equivalent of 5.2 million blood bags annually. However, only ± 4.2 million bags can be distributed by IRCS. The people’s awareness upon this condition is still lacking, hopefully in the future there will be more people who will pay better attention and take action towards this problem. (MS/PR)
Setetes Kebaikan dalam Bentuk Donor Darah
Setetes darah kita, berarti untuk kehidupan orang lain. Maraknya bencana alam yang terjadi belakangan ini membuat Mahasiswa Prodi Ilmu Komunikasi President University menggandeng Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI) untuk mengadakan donor darah pada Kamis, 26 September 2019. Bertempat di Kampus President University, acara ini dihadiri oleh keluarga besar dan warga sekitar President University.
“Saya berharap aksi donor darah ini bisa menjadi tempat untuk berbagi kebaikan,” ujar Jasmine Afridanti (19), ketua pelaksana aksi donor darah.
Theresa Karlianti, Ketua HIMA Komunikasi menjelaskan rencana HIMA Komunikasi untuk meneruskan kerjasama dengan PMI karena banyak manfaat yang dapat dirasakan baik oleh pendonor, PMI, juga HIMA. Selain berbuat kebaikan, berdonor darah juga dapat melancarkan peredaran darah dan meningkatkan kesehatan tubuh. Manfaat-manfaat tersebut yang membuat Theresa berharap aksi donor darah ini bisa terus berlanjut.
Theresa juga menambahkan, berdasarkan data WHO, Indonesia membutuhkan minimal 2% darah dari jumlah penduduk yang setara dengan 5,2 juta kantong darah per tahun. Namun, setiap tahun PMI hanya dapat menyebar sekitar 4,2 juta kantong darah. Banyak orang tidak menyadari situasi ini, harapannya di masa depan lebih banyak masyarakat yang memperhatikan dan melakukan tindakan atas masalah ini. (MS/PR)
