As an international standard campus, President University strives to provide the widest opportunity for students and alumni to continue their study or join student exchange programs abroad. Scherzo Wahid Naiborhu, one of the alumni from Management Study Program President University batch 2012, managed to get a master degree scholarship in University of Glasgow, in the United Kingdom.
According to Scherzo, he was very grateful to receive this prestigious scholarship. He also revealed that he had applied for other scholarships several times. "This is the ninth scholarship I have applied. However, the previous failures didn't make me give up. This time the opportunity came from President University which has made a very interesting collaboration with the University of Glasgow, one of the oldest universities in the world," said this Bataknese man who is currently working as an analyst at one of the multinational banks in Indonesia.
During his college years, he was active in the organization and took part in several competitions. He was a recipient of the China Harbor scholarship and became a representative of Indonesia in various events such as the World Culture Forum, Orange ASEAN, ASEAN-Korea Youth Network Workshop, and others.
Scherzo said there are two main steps in preparing for the scholarship application, which are application for study at the University of Glasgow and for the scholarship. The first step is to get an offer letter from the University of Glasgow by sending several documents such as essays, English proficiency certificates, scans of diplomas, and others. After receiving an offer letter, he applied for the scholarship to the International Partnerships Office of President University.
For those who want to apply for this scholarship, Scherzo shares some tips, "When writing the essays, make it simple and summarize all the points we want to write. Prepare for the interview, practice and also do research about the university. And don't forget to ask parents for prayer," he said.
The English environment at President University is very helpful for Scherzo in taking the IELTS test, interview, and writing essays. “Presentation system in President University enabled me to have a good public speaking skill and confidence in doing the interview. And the quality of the study is outstanding,” said Scherzo.
This scholarship program is the result of partnerships between President University and University of Glasgow, which makes President University the only private university that has this privilege.
Sebagai kampus berstandar internasional, President University berupaya memberikan kesempatan seluas-luasnya bagi mahasiswa dan alumninya untuk melanjutkan studi maupun program pertukaran pelajar di luar negeri. Scherzo Wahid Naiborhu, salah satu alumni jurusan Manajemen angkatan 2012 President University berhasil mendapatkan beasiswa S2 ke University of Glasgow, Inggris.
Menurut Scherzo, Ia sangat bersyukur dirinya bisa menerima beasiswa bergengsi tersebut. Ia juga mengungkapkan bahwa ia telah beberapa kali mendaftar beasiswa. “Ini merupakan beasiswa ke sembilan yang telah saya daftar. Tetapi, kegagalan dari sebelumnya tidak membuat saya menyerah. Kali ini kesempatan datang dari President University yang telah membuat kerja sama yang sangat menarik dengan University of Glasgow, salah satu universitas tertua di dunia,” ujar pria asal Batak yang sekarang bekerja sebagai analis di salah satu Bank multinasional di Indonesia.
Semasa kuliah Ia aktif dalam organisasi dan mengikuti lomba. Ia merupakan penerima beasiswa China Harbor dan menjadi perwakilan Indonesia dalam berbagai ajang seperti World Culture Forum, Orange ASEAN, ASEAN-Korea Youth Network Workshop, dan lain-lain.
Scherzo mengatakan terdapat dua hal utama dalam mempersiapkan pendaftaran beasiswa, yaitu pendaftaran untuk kuliah di University of Glasgow dan pendaftaran beasiswanya. Langkah pertama adalah mendapatkan offering letter dari University of Glasgow terlebih dahulu dengan mengirim beberapa dokumen seperti esai, sertifikat kemampuan bahasa Inggris, scan ijazah, dan lain-lain. Setelah mendapat offering letter, lalu mendaftar untuk beasiswanya ke International Partnerships Office President University.
Bagi yang ingin mendaftar beasiswa ini, Scherzo membagikan beberapa tips, “Saat menulis essay, buat sederhana dan tidak perlu bertele-tele namun dapat merangkum semua poin yang akan kita tuliskan. Persiapkan diri untuk interview semaksimal mungkin, berlatih dan juga lakukan riset terhadap univesitas tersebut. Dan jangan lupa untuk meminta doa kepada orang tua,” ungkapnya.
Proses belajar di President University yang menggunakan bahasa English bagi Scherzo sangat membantu dalam test IELTS, interview, dan menulis esai. “Sistem presentasi di President University memungkinkan saya mempunyai kemampuan berbicara di depan umum yang baik dan percaya diri saat wawancara. Kualitas pembelajarannya pun sangat baik,” tutur Scherzo.
Program ini merupakan hasil kerja sama dari President University dengan University of Glasgow yang memungkinkan alumni President University untuk mendapat beasiswa penuh untuk belajar disana, hal tersebut menjadikan President University satu-satunya perguruan tinggi swasta yang mendapatkan kesempatan tersebut.
