Communication Study Program of President University held a National Scientific Conference called “Dynamic Media Communication and Culture (DIMCC)”. The number of prominent academicians who become the speakers are: Prof. Deddy Mulyana. M.A., Ph.D., Academician from Universitas Padjajaran and Syamsuddin Aziz, Ph.D from Universitas Hasanuddin.

Deddy Mulyana in his discussion stated his concern on the impact of culture difference toward social media.“Social Media has many positive impacts and also negative impacts. Eventhough Social Media is sophisticated, but it is an extension of human hand. It can’t change the direct communication because it involves all human senses,” said Deddy at Charles Himawan Auditorium, President University, Thursday (11/22).

According to Deddy, it is needed to have a serious effort to tackle the impact of social media. “Serious efforts are needed to overcome the impact of social media, including family education, digital literacy training for the community, and in-depth research by universities," said Deddy.

The DiMCC conference was officially opened by Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. Dr. Endi Haryono, S.IP., M.A followed by the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between President University and ASPIKOM Jabodetabek.

More than 40 participants presented the results of their research at this conference. Besides 25 Communication students of President University, participants also came from various universities including Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Atmajaya, Universitas Andalas and Universitas Sam Ratulangi.


Program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi President University menggelar konferensi ilmiah nasional perdananya bertajuk “Dynamic Media Communication and Culture (DIMCC)”. Sejumlah akademisi ternama yang menjadi pembicara antara lain Prof. Deddy Mulyana. M.A., Ph.D., akademisi dari Universitas Padjajaran dan Syamsuddin Aziz, Ph.D. dari Universitas Hasanuddin.

Deddy Mulyana dalam diskusinya menyatakan keprihatinan terhadap dampak perbedaan budaya terhadap media sosial. “Media sosial menimbulkan banyak dampak positif, namun banyak juga dampak negatifnya. Meski canggih media sosial adalah perpanjangan tangan manusia. Ia tidak dapat menggantikan komunikasi tatap muka yang paling ampuh karena melibatkan semua pancaindra manusia,” tutur Deddy di Auditorium Charles Himawan, President University, Kamis (22/11).

Menurut Deddy, perlu upaya serius untuk menanggulangi dampak media sosial. “Diperlukan upaya serius untuk menanggulangi dampak media sosial ini, termasuk pendidikan dalam keluarga, pelatihan literasi digital bagi masyarakat, dan riset mendalam oleh perguruan tinggi,” pungkasnya.

Konferensi DiMCC dibuka secara resmi oleh Dekan Fakultas Humaniora, Dr. Endi Haryono, S.IP., M.A. dan dirangkaikan dengan penandatanganan nota kerja sama antara President University dan ASPIKOM Jabodetabek.

Sebanyak lebih dari 40 pemakalah mempresentasikan hasil kajiannya dalam konferensi ini. Selain 25 mahasiswa S1 Ilmu Komunikasi President University, para pemakalah juga datang dari berbagai universitas di antaranya Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Atmajaya, Universitas Andalas dan Universitas Sam Ratulangi.
