March 11, 2026

Friday, 13 February 2026— President University continued its guest lecture series titled “Spot the Red Flags: Identifying Competition Risks in Commercial Contracts” at the Charles Himawan Auditorium, President University Campus, Jababeka City. The session featured Umery Latifa, S.H., Associate at Assegaf Hamzah & Partners.

During the lecture, Umery discussed the importance of identifying potential commercial risks when drafting or reviewing business agreements. She explained that legal professionals must exercise careful judgment when providing advice to clients, particularly when commercial arrangements intersect with competition law considerations.

She noted that companies may sometimes overlook competition law when structuring business agreements. Certain contractual requirements, for instance, may limit customers to purchasing exclusively from a specific partner, preventing them from engaging with other suppliers. “When you are a lawyer, you need to be careful when giving advice to your client. Sometimes competition law is overlooked, and certain requirements may limit customers to purchasing only from one partner, which can ultimately restrict or undermine fair competition in the market,” she explained.
