Strengthening Educational Bonds Between Romania and Indonesia

President University had the honor of welcoming H.E. Dan Adrian Bălănescu, the Ambassador of Romania to Indonesia, at the Ambassador Lecture held on May 7th, 2025, at the Fablab. Rector Handa Abidin opened the session by emphasizing the importance of international learning, stating that “we want to learn many things from Romania—the culture, the people, the food, and the country.” His remarks set the tone for a lecture that delved into the strategic cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Bălănescu shared insights into Romania’s growing relationship with Indonesia, especially in the field of education. He discussed the possibility of bilateral agreements, including MoUs between Romanian universities and Indonesian institutions. He emphasized that Romania is actively offering scholarships to Indonesian students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with programs available in various fields such as business, economics, management, oil and gas, and public administration.

Beyond academia, the ambassador provided an overview of the Romanian Embassy’s role in Jakarta, highlighting its political, economic, and cultural functions. He also mentioned career opportunities at the embassy, illustrating Romania’s openness to deeper people-to-people connections. The session painted a promising picture of Romania as not just a European destination but a collaborative partner in Southeast Asia.
