As part of the 25th Dies Natalis celebration of President University, the President University Guest Lecture Series: Book Review “Kampus Meretas Batas” featured a reflection session held on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, at President University Convention Center, President University Main Campus.
SD Darmono, Founder of President University and CEO of PT Jababeka Tbk., shared the early vision behind the establishment of the university, which emerged in 1994 in response to the need for skilled talent in the Jababeka industrial area.
He emphasized that higher education at the time needed to better align with industrial demands and global competitiveness. Inspired by international education models, he envisioned a university that integrates academic learning with practical skills, work experience, English proficiency, and global exposure.
Reflecting on challenges during the 1998 monetary crisis, he reaffirmed his belief in the importance of advancing education even in uncertain times. He stated, “We want President University graduates to possess knowledge, skills, work experience, and familiarity with global environments. They must be nationalistic, but not narrow-minded, and have international perspectives to help drive Indonesia’s progress.”
