Responding to Indonesian Accreditation Challenges in Law Journals at President University
May 08, 2025

In the context of evolving academic standards, managing legal journals in Indonesia presents unique challenges. During a forum held by the Faculty of Law at President University on May 8th, 2025, Dr. Kukuh Tejomurti, S.H., LL.M., Chair of the Indonesian Association of Legal Journal Managers (APJHI) for the 2024–2029 period. He emphasized that the bureaucratic layers of registration and verification often become a barrier for journal development, even when the content is of high quality.

Dr. Tejomurti also presented key insights into the upcoming 2024 assessment guidelines, which reflect a shift in focus from formal technicalities to substantial matters. The new policies will eliminate the need for page number evaluations, enforce stricter DOI checks per article, and require editorial teams to include members from at least four different institutions. These changes are aimed at improving the quality and transparency of journal management while minimizing outdated metrics like web traffic stats. However, the risk of facing a Scopus embargo for up to three years following a rejection adds further pressure on publishers to meet both ethical and structural standards.

In light of these national challenges, President University is actively strengthening the governance of its legal journal, Problematika Hukum, by aligning with updated national policies and improving editorial procedures. This commitment reflects the university’s broader dedication to upholding academic integrity and enhancing the impact of its scholarly contributions within Indonesia’s legal research landscape.
