Thursday, 15 January 2026—During the inauguration of the Indonesia–China Partnership Institution (ICPI) at President University, Prof. Xu Baofeng, Director of the World Sinology Center of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), highlighted Indonesia’s historical role as a crossroads of civilizations and cultural exchange.
Referring to Indonesia as the “Land of a Thousand Islands” and the birthplace of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative, Prof. Xu noted that Indonesia has long connected diverse civilizations. Throughout history, Chinese sailors, traders, and scholars interacted with the multicultural societies of the Indonesian archipelago, leaving behind enduring stories of friendship and mutual respect.
Emphasizing the importance of diversity and dialogue, he remarked that “civilizations become vibrant through diversity, and grow richer through mutual learning,” underscoring the relevance of ICPI as a platform for strengthening cultural understanding and cooperation between Indonesia and China.
