On Thursday, 18 September 2025—the Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, President University, held a seminar titled International Civil Engineering Sharing Session and Workshop. The event took place at the Activity Room, Faculty of Medicine, President University, and was attended not only by President University students but also by students from various local and international universities as well as practitioners from the field. The seminar was moderated by Prof. Dr. Susy Fatena Rostiyanti, S.T., M.Sc., who guided the discussions throughout the session.
In his opening speech, Yosef Barita Sar Manik, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, emphasized that industrial development cannot be viewed solely from an industrial perspective. “This development must also be seen in a greater social and sustainable context. We hope we can develop further collaboration with all the participants here,” he stated.
The seminar also featured insights from Prof. Dr. Walter Timo de Vries of the Technical University of Munich, who explained how reputations shape perceptions of a region. He noted that if an area is labeled as industrial, people often assume it is dominated by factories, when in reality it may include various types of buildings and residences. “For example, we live in apartments even in an industrial area. These reputations will affect people’s perception of an area. Understanding this allows us to adjust our steps accordingly,” he explained. (Graciella V, PR Team. Photo: Marchell Harist)
