A seminar titled “Indonesia as a World Economic Power: Legal Perspective” took place on April 29th, 2025, at Charles Himawan Auditorium, President University. The event featured Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., as the keynote speaker and was attended primarily by law students. While the discussion covered global economic developments, a key focus of the session was on how digital innovation is reshaping national financial systems and reinforcing economic independence.
Prof. Ariawan highlighted the strategic development of Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) as Indonesia’s national digital payment system. He explained that QRIS serves not only to simplify domestic transactions but also as a deliberate move to challenge the global dominance of platforms like Visa, Mastercard, and Apple Pay. Its expansion beyond Indonesian borders signifies the country’s proactive stance in asserting economic sovereignty in the digital domain.
He further argued that Indonesia has no legal obligation to seek international approval when establishing such domestic policies, reinforcing the nation’s autonomy in financial governance. This policy direction is crucial in building a more secure, independent, and inclusive economic framework. According to Prof. Ariawan, fostering national systems like QRIS is essential for shielding Indonesia from external economic shocks and for ensuring long-term digital resilience.
By organizing this seminar, President University demonstrates its ongoing dedication to nurturing forward-thinking leaders equipped to face the legal and technological challenges of the 21st century. The event is part of the university’s broader initiative to empower students with both theoretical and practical knowledge in emerging areas of law, policy, and digital innovation.
