Tuesday, 14 January 2026—President University hosted the Bincang Polugri forum entrusted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia as a platform for dialogue between foreign policy practitioners and the academic community, featuring discussions on the future of Indonesian diplomacy.
The forum was moderated by Bunga Dita Rahma Cesaria, S.H., LL.M., Lecturer of the Law Study Program at President University, and featured Ambassador Daniel Tumpal Simanjuntak, Director General of Economic Relations and Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as the main speaker, with academic responses delivered by Dr. Mohammad Syafi’i Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education at President University.
Ambassador Daniel emphasized that Indonesian diplomacy requires multidisciplinary human resources supported by strong critical thinking skills. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is filled with graduates from diverse academic backgrounds and encouraged students to equip themselves with both legal understanding and analytical perspectives, stating, “The world cannot be confined to a single discipline. What is needed is critical thinking.”
He further reaffirmed that Indonesia’s diplomacy remains firmly grounded in international law despite the growing challenges faced by the global multilateral system, adding, “We need more professionals, including lawyers, who understand diplomacy and are capable of critical thinking.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Syafi’i highlighted the importance of the younger generation’s role in understanding and overseeing foreign policy, urging students to actively follow global issues. “If you want to participate, you must be critical. Start by reading and understanding foreign policy issues,” he emphasized.
