Friday, 3 October 2025—The International Relations Study Program of President University held a guest lecture titled Ensuring No One is Left Behind: How Indonesia Protects Its Citizens Abroad Amid Rising Global Tensions, featuring Judha Nugraha, Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The lecture—held at the Charles Himawan Auditorium, President University Main Campus, Kota Jababeka, Cikarang—was moderated by Nino Viartasiwi, Ph.D., a lecturer of the International Relations Study Program at President University.
The event opened with remarks from Muhammad Sigit Andhi Rahman, S.IP., M.A., Ph.D., Head of the International Relations Study Program. He stated, “Diplomats are the ones who go out of the country to establish connections and protect our citizens. Integrating the experience of practitioners will also strengthen our value. Learn from the best—experts and one of Indonesia’s diplomatic practitioners.”
In his lecture, Judha highlighted that protecting citizens is an obligation of the country, and that is what Indonesia has been doing so far. Several diplomats have even gone into conflict areas to evacuate Indonesian citizens. He added that many Indonesians have been trafficked or smuggled out, making it harder to account for all citizens abroad. “Reporting to the Indonesian embassy will create better connections. By law, every Indonesian living overseas for more than one year is obliged to report to the nearest embassy,” he emphasized. “Moreover, anyone who stays overseas for more than five years without reporting their presence to the embassy may have their nationality status subject to revocation,” he warned.
