Thursday, 16 October 2025—Together with The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) of Indonesia—supported by UNFPA and the Government of Canada through the BERANI II Program—Meta Indonesia, and Preserve Foundation, the International Relations Study Program of President University held an educational talk show and workshop titled “We Have a Role: Acting Together for Women and the Earth.” The event took place at the Charles Himawan Auditorium, 5th floor of Building A, President University Main Campus, Jababeka City, Cikarang.

The event was attended by Daden Sukendar, Commissioner of Komnas Perempuan; Novi Anggriani, Senior International Assistance Officer at the Embassy of Canada to Indonesia; Handa Abidin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., Rector of President University; I Gusti Ngurah Pradnya Prayata Anom, Chairman of Ciptaloka Foundation; and Ni Putu Chelsia Velisca Anggraini, Project Manager.

The speakers for the session were Dr. Ir. Yunita Ismail, M.Si., Head of CEDRS, President University and Chairperson of APIK Network Indonesia, and Chatarina Pancer Istiyani, Commissioner of Komnas Perempuan.

Chatarina discussed how the climate crisis, caused by human activities, affects various aspects of life such as agriculture and water systems. “This situation has made it harder for men who used to provide for their families, and women’s job opportunities have also declined. These pressures have led to a rise in domestic violence,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Yunita emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in addressing environmental issues, reminding participants to reflect on their daily habits. “Who is responsible for your waste? We are the ones giving the biggest impact through what we do every day,” she said. She added that people must strive to create balance in their actions—if they cause harm, they must also contribute positively to restore that balance.

In the workshop session, Dessy Septiane S., Policy Programs Manager (Indonesia), shared insights on Digital Safety for Gender and Climate Justice, highlighting the importance of creating a safer and more inclusive online space that supports advocacy and awareness efforts.  (Graciella V, PR Team.
