The guest lecture at President University Fablab featured international expert Mr. Inoue Kazutoshi, a Japan International Cooperation Agency consultant and patent examiner from the Japan Patent Office (JPO). As part of the "Patent Commercialization Strategies: From Invention to Economic Innovation" event held on June 11, 2025, Mr. Inoueโs presentation provided a global perspective on how IP systems drive innovation and national competitiveness.
He shared how Japanโs robust IP system supports industries through the integration of patents, industrial designs, and trademarks. With examples from household innovations like instant noodles and eco-friendly bottle designs, he illustrated the strong link between patent growth and GDP. Mr. Inoue also emphasized the critical role of universities and SMEs in the innovation ecosystem. While SMEs dominate in number, their patent output remains low, prompting Japan to offer financial assistance, consulting, and training to improve participation in IP protection.
President University sees great value in these international insights and continues to enhance its academic and innovation frameworks. By building a culture of invention and commercialization, PU prepares its students to not only compete globally but also to become contributors to Indonesiaโs creative and technological progress.
