On Tuesday, 9 September 2025. The Faculty of Medicine at President University recently welcomed Dr. J. Satrijo Tanudjojo, who delivered an inspiring session titled “The Calling of Medicine: Confidence, Dedication, Professionalism.” Addressing medical students, he shared not only lessons on pursuing a career in medicine but also reflections on life, character, and growth.
Satrijo reminded students that every person faces the pull of four forces—pleasure, power, pride, and possessions. These inseparable aspects of human life challenge individuals to remain grounded while striving to improve themselves. He stressed that one’s beginning does not define one’s destination; confidence and perseverance are key to success. Equally important, he highlighted gratitude, explaining that it separates entitlement from privilege, while humility and continuous learning allow one to grow personally and professionally.
Reflecting on the nature of medicine, Satrijo emphasized that the profession demands confidence, dedication, and professionalism. He encouraged students to dream big, act with purpose, and find love in their work. “When you love what you do,” he said, “your professional and personal life become meaningful extensions of each other.” At the same time, he reminded students that it is also important to take breaks and care for themselves.
He concluded with a powerful message: luck favors those who are prepared. For aspiring doctors, preparation comes not only from academic excellence but also from character, gratitude, and passion for learning. With these values, students can embrace the true calling of medicine and serve society with compassion and professionalism. (Rachel V, PR Team. Photo: Roffizul H)
