Dr. Harryanto Aryodiguno Highlights Sinology and Global South Perspective in Strengthening Indonesia–China People-to-People Relations
February 09, 2026

Thursday, 15 January 2026— Following the Inauguration of the Indonesia–China Partnership Institution (ICPI), the event continued with the Indonesia–China High-Level Dialogue on Sinology, China Studies, and People-to-People Exchange, serving as a platform to deepen academic collaboration and cross-cultural engagement between the two countries.

Dr. Harryanto Aryodiguno, Chairman of the Sinology Center of President University, highlighted the importance of people-centered relations in strengthening Indonesia–China ties, particularly from the Global South perspective. He emphasized that the relationship between the two countries has never been built solely on diplomatic agreements or economic cooperation but has also been shaped by long-standing social and cultural connections formed through communities and historical exchanges. In this context, he explained that Sinology is not merely an academic discipline but also a civilizational method—a way to learn from the past to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.

He further explained that shared historical experiences, including colonial legacies and global inequalities, have encouraged solidarity among Global South countries, including Indonesia and China. “The Global South has never been merely about inter-state relations. Indonesia–China relations rely heavily on living social and cultural networks,” he stated, underscoring that mutual understanding and cultural engagement remain essential foundations for sustainable cooperation between the two nations.
