During the International Civil Engineering Sharing Session and Workshop, held on Thursday, 18 September 2025 at Activity Room, Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Dr. Nurharniza Abdul Rahman delivered a presentation on the potential of steel fiber-reinforced concrete. She explained that the use of this material can extend the lifespan of structures while reducing the likelihood of cracks or breaks. “It offers a sustainable alternative for construction projects,” she stated.
Adding another perspective, Dr. Nurul Izzatul Lydia from SEGi University & Colleges spoke about the durability of timber in construction. She highlighted that many wooden structures, such as the Nara Pagoda in Japan, have stood for centuries, but emphasized that the wood used in ancient times was not the same as the younger trees typically used today. “Wood used during those times was sourced from large, old trees, which are significantly more durable than what we have now,” she explained.
The program concluded with a workshop led by Ir. Seng Hansen, S.T., M.Sc., M.H., Ph.D., IPM., a lecturer at President University. His session highlighted the importance for civil engineers to understand contracts thoroughly, as this knowledge forms an essential part of their professional responsibilities. (Graciella V, PR Team.
