On Thursday, December 19, 2024, the Architecture Study Program part of the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture at President University (Presuniv), in collaboration with the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI), Bekasi, held a seminar titled “Architecture as Identity: Navigating the Path to Your Unique Design Style”. This hybrid seminar was held at the President Executive Club, Capitol Business District, Jl. Niaga Raya, Cikarang, Bekasi, was attended by Presuniv students and faculty, as well as participants from other universities, both in person and online.
Selly Veronica, ST, MT, Head of the Architecture Study Program at Presuniv, served as the moderator and shared insights about Presuniv’s educational approach. “Our students not only learn theory but also engage in hands-on practice based on designated topics. Through this, we hope every graduate can become a skilled architect contributing to our nation’s development,” she remarked.
The seminar featured Yu Sing, founder of Studio Akanoma, and Defry Agatha Ardianta, Co-Founder of Ordes Arsitektur, as speakers. Yu Sing shared his journey in finding his design style, which he achieved after eight years of practice. “I discovered my design style through persistence and continuous exploration. The key is not just designing to please oneself but embracing and experimenting with diverse architectural forms,” he explained.
Defry echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of ideas in architecture. “In design, there’s no absolute right or wrong—it’s all relative,” he stated. Many ideas, according to Defry, fail because architects often struggle to articulate their concepts. “What’s essential in architecture is the idea, argument, or discourse. Once the idea is clear, the next steps will follow naturally. If others struggle to understand your concept, you can refer to similar architectural precedents to help communicate your vision,” he suggested. (Graciella V, PR Team. Photo: Graciella V).
