On Monday, September 2, 2024, the Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, President University (Presuniv), held its first public lecture of the new academic year. This event was not only aimed at bridging the gap between theory and practice but also served to welcome the new students who have just joined the Architecture Program. The public lecture featured Bindi Raditya Purnama, ST, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Cand.), from KU Leuven, who discussed Rethinking Coastal Urbanism: Water-Centric Design Approaches for Future Cities. Selly Veronica, ST, MT, the Head of the Architecture Program moderated the lecture.
Selly stated, “This year, the Architecture Program family has gained new members, not only from Indonesia but also from China, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste, who will all be studying together.” Carrying the banner of the Architecture Program, she added, “Starting today, we will learn and grow together.”
In his presentation, Bindi emphasized the crucial role of Urban Designers. “Urban Designers are those who talk about how to make cities better. They also determine the type of growth needed in order to adapt to climate change,” he explained. Urban Designers don’t just create beautiful designs; their work must also be functional, helping city residents address challenges, such as flooding, erosion, and other issues. “Therefore, it is essential for us to consider water channels when creating urban designs,” he stated.
