Wednesday, 6 May 2026 — President University hosted an Ambassador Lecture titled “Geopolitics in the Middle East and Indonesia’s Foreign Policy Strategy” at President University Convention Center, President University Main Campus. The session featured Mr. Ahrul Tsani Fathurrahman, Director for Middle Eastern Affairs at the Directorate General for Asia-Pacific and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
During the lecture, Mr. Ahrul highlighted the strategic importance of the Middle East and its direct relevance to Indonesia. He explained that developments in the region affect global energy markets, trade, and economic stability, making them significant for Indonesia as well. “The Middle East is not far from Indonesia. What affects the Middle East also affects us,” he said, referring to the region’s influence on fuel prices, global trade, and broader economic conditions.
He noted that geopolitical and military competition in the region remains high, although several countries have sought to ease tensions through stronger economic cooperation and investment partnerships. According to him, economic interests continue to play a major role in shaping decision-making across the Middle East.
Discussing Indonesia’s foreign policy approach, Mr. Ahrul emphasized the importance of peaceful solutions and de-escalation. “Sustainable peace can only be achieved through negotiation,” he stated, underscoring Indonesia’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional conflicts.
