Handa S. Abidin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D.
Rector of President University

Prior to his appointment as Rector of President University, Dr. Abidin served as Vice Rector from 2016, holding several senior leadership roles, most recently as Vice Rector for Academics. He is a scholar of international law, with a particular focus on international climate change law.

As an academic, among the advanced courses he teaches is International Climate Change Law. He also authored a peer-reviewed monograph titled "The Protection of Indigenous Peoples and Reduction of Forest Carbon Emissions: The REDD-Plus Regime and International Law," which is held in the collections of the world's leading law schools, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford.

In recognition of his academic standing and professional judgement, Dr. Abidin has been appointed by Asian Legal Business (Thomson Reuters) as a judge for the ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards (2018-2023) and the ALB Indonesia Law Awards (2015, 2017-2023).

Dr. Abidin completed his legal education across three jurisdictions. He obtained his Sarjana Hukum (S.H.) from Universitas Indonesia, his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from The George Washington University Law School, and his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law from the University of Edinburgh Law School.
