Never get tired of innovating. That's what Jhanghiz Syahrivar, Ph.D., did when he was appointed Assistant Professor of Marketing and Program Coordinator of Digital Marketing and Contemporary Marketing at President University (Presuniv). Jhanghiz didn't just talk; he put it into practice when he had to continue his education at the doctoral level (S3) in business and management, with a specialization in marketing, at Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary.

What encouraged Jhanghiz to continue his doctoral studies and choose Europe, especially Hungary? "Studying for a doctoral degree is required as a lecturer, so the knowledge I have can be relevant to the newest scientific field," Jhanghiz explained. What about the choice of Europe? "While studying, I also want to add cultural insight," he said.

Hungary is indeed a rich country in artistic talents. Béla Viktor János Bartók (1881-1945) was a world-renowned composer and pianist from Hungary. Famed with the best composers of the 20th century, such as Stavinsky and Schonberg. Also There is Imre Kertesz, one of the famous novelist. Other than a famous figure in Hungarian music, Zoltan Kodaly, a composer, ethnomusicologist, educator, and others.

Before continuing his studies in Hungary, Jhanghiz also, in 2015, joined the Campus Internationalization program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the United States (US). This is a non-degree program sponsored by the US Department of State.

Then, in 2019, Jhanghiz continued his economics studies at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Poland. This is also a non-degree program sponsored by the Polish Government.

Lectures, Guides, and Passes Summa Cum Laude

While studying for his Ph.D., Jhanghiz continues teaching his students at the Management Study Program, Presuniv. This is certainly not easy. He must wisely manage his time. He explained, "There is a time difference of about six hours between Hungary and Indonesia. This is a fairly wide period. So, every early morning Hungarian time, I have to get up to give lectures for Presuniv students in Indonesia."

If lectures in Indonesia are held in the morning, around 07.30 AM, it means that it will be 01.30 AM in Hungary. Or, if it's 10.00 AM Indonesian time, that means 04.00 AM in Hungary. Apart from continuing to teach online, Jhanghiz has to guide final-year students to complete their thesis. All this had to be done when the Covid-19 pandemic hit Indonesia and the world.

After going through a challenging journey, while continuing to teach and guide students, Jhanghiz finally completed his doctoral degree and finished writing his dissertation in December 2021. For his dissertation topic, Jhanghiz chose product marketing that carries the importance of morals, including products with religious or spiritual themes and green products. Jhanghiz's dissertation topic is Compensatory Mechanism in a Religious Context.

Thanks to his discipline and commitment to gaining knowledge during college, Jhanghiz managed to graduate on time. Jhanghiz graduated with a perfect score or Summa Cum Laude with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 on a scale of 1.0 to 5.0.

10 Publications in Scopus Indexed Journals

While completing his doctoral program, Jhanghiz was also diligent in researching and publishing. A total of 10 Jhanghiz scientific works have been published in several Scopus-indexed journals. "As a lecturer, I have to increase my publications in reputable international journals," he said.

Most of his journals take themes related to moral consumption behavior, closely related to the consumption of green and sustainable products, and religious and spiritual nuances. Jhanghiz said that he chose this topic because people's consumption behavior, such as the choice of products and services, is a manifestation of consumer trust, especially regarding things that are considered right and wrong based on the values ??that consumers believe in.

As of November 2022, said Jhanghiz, he had produced 18 scientific papers in Scopus-indexed journals. "That number has not met my target. In the medium term, I want to write 30 publications in Scopus-indexed journals," he said.

Apart from taking the topic of moral consumption, Jhanghiz is also exploring other topics in the field of techno-marketing, especially those related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation in a marketing context. "Like an aspiring soldier, everyone wants to become a general. Likewise, as a lecturer, I aspire to one day become a professor," he said.

As an alumnus of the Corvinus University of Budapest, Jhanghiz maintains good relations with professors and colleagues at the university. One of the routine activities that he carries out with his professors and colleagues at this time is conducting research collaborations at an international level. Through this collaboration, Jhanghiz hopes that Presuniv's name will also be lifted and made even more famous at the international level. (Lita Gabriella, PR team) (Photo: Jhanghiz Syahrivar).
