Endi Haryono, a lecturer in the International Relations Study Program and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, President University (Presuniv), released his new book entitled Politik dan Ideologi PDI Perjuangan 1987-1999: Penemuan dan Kemenangan. (The Politics and Ideology of the PDI Party 1987-1999) The book was co-authored with Djarot Saiful Hidayat, a PDI Perjuangan politician who is a member of the People's Representative Council (DPR), Review Board Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), and Chair of the Ideology and Cadreization Division Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) 2019-2024, along with administrators of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Party Cadre School.

Endi and Djarot's book was published by Gramedia and has been circulating since January 2023. This book is the first volume of three books series Endi and Djarot will write. The first volume deals with Penemuan dan Kemenangan (1987-1999) (Rise to Power & Victory). Meanwhile, the 2nd volume is Memerintah dan Beroposisi (2000-2009) (Governing & Opposition), and the 3rd volume discusses Mengawal Indonesia Maju (2010-2019) (Shepherding Indonesia into the future).

Endi and Djarot planned to write three books after consulting with Cornelis Lay during a meeting in  February 2020 in Yogyakarta. Endi and Djarot initially intended to write about the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) for the 1999-2019 period. However, Cornelis convinced them to write from the 1980s and 1990s when the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) started. Through their research, 1987 was determined as the starting point for the political and ideological journey of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Moreover, that year coincided with the 1987 election, which at that time was only contested by three parties (Party of Functional Groups (Golkar), United Development Party (PPP), and the Indonesian Democratic Party or PDI). The joining of Megawati Soekarnoputri also marked in 1987 as a PDI cadre (at that time, not yet the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)).

The book of the Politik dan Ideologi PDI Perjuangan 1987-1999: Penemuan dan Kemenangan outlines the politics and ideology of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). Its contents include fighting values, political culture, political strategy, political behavior, public policy advocacy, and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) national history and political struggles.

This book also emphasizes that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is not only a party that is the five-year electoral machine but also a vehicle for maintaining national values and Bung Karno's fire. The party's contribution is reflected in its participation in elections and socio-political activities, as well as being a vessel for the aspirations of an independent, united, sovereign, righteous, and prosperous Indonesia.

1987-1999 is the year of birth and formation of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) foundation. These processes are inseparable from socio-political and economic dynamics, as well as historical traces and ideological clarification, which have further strengthened PDI-P's emotional ties with the underprivileged, who have been their supporters for many years.

This book, written by Djarot and Endi, uses a writing style that is fluid and easy to understand. Maybe it cannot be separated from the experience of Endi, who had a career as a journalist in one of the media in Yogyakarta. The simple writing style, while still maintaining academic principles, is expected to appeal to readers from various professions and disciplines. The book uses easily understands terminology and the basic concepts of political science, especially those of the politics of democracy. This book is also expected to be used as a reference for cadres regarding the history and ideology of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) party.
