Digital banks in Indonesia grown rapidly in recent years. Digital bank players are still dominated by conventional banking institutions. To become a digital bank, conventional banking institutions can take a business model transformation path or through other means, such as carrying out corporate actions with acquisitions.

One of the initiators is PT Bank BTPN Tbk. (BTPN). On 11 August 2016, BTPN launched a digital banking innovation application called Jenius. As if they didn't want to be outdone, a year after the launch of Jenius, Bank DBS Indonesia launched Digibank with the theme Bank Less Live More (cnbcindonesia.com).

However, what public known as a digital bank, according to the Financial Services Authority (OJK), is not. Until now, according OJK, not a single bank has fully digital status. OJK is still drafting regulations related to digital banks and is targeted to be completed by mid-2021 (katadata.co.id).

Then what about Jago Bank? This year, Bank Jago stated that they are ready to grow with a new, fully digital and technology-based business model. Bank Jago's main market segments are middle class and mass-market, such as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and retail customers both conventionally and sharia (financial.bisnis.com).

In December 2020, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) reported that the trend of digital bank adoption in the Southeast Asia region was increasing due to high internet penetration, adoption of retail consumer behavior, and limitations arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the BCG survey conducted in 30 countries in 2020, retail bank customers who were respondents admitted that they used online banking services more often to adapt to the midst of a pandemic. In some cases, a number of banks have also closed and restricted their branch office services and directed customers to access digital services (idtechinasia.com)

In order to continue to grow, there are still a number of challenges facing digital banks. First, there are no rules related to digital banks. These are the tasks that the OJK is currently working on. Second, there are no regulations related to data protection and an adequate security system. Tren Baru Bank Digital di Indonesia

 

Bank digital di Tanah Air berkembang pesat dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Pelaku bank digital masih didominasi oleh lembaga perbankan konvensional. Untuk menjadi bank digital, lembaga perbankan konvensional dapat menempuh jalur transformasi model bisnis atau melalui cara lain, seperti melakukan aksi korporasi dengan akuisisi.

Salah satu pemrakarsa bank digital adalah PT Bank BTPN Tbk. (BTPN). Pada 11 Agustus 2016, BTPN meluncurkan aplikasi inovasi perbankan digital bernama Jenius. Seakan tak mau kalah, setahun setelah peluncuran Jenius, Bank DBS Indonesia meluncurkan Digibank dengan tema Bank Less Live More (cnbcindonesia.com).

Namun, apa yang dikenal masyarakat sebagai bank digital, menurut Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), sejatinya belum. Sampai saat ini, masih menurut OJK,  belum ada satu pun bank yang berstatus full digital. OJK masih menyusun regulasi terkait bank digital dan ditargetkan selesaia pada pertengahan tahun 2021 (katadata.co.id).

Lalu bagaimana dengan Bank Jago? Untuk tahun ini Bank Jago menyatakan siap tumbuh dengan model bisnis baru yang sepenuhnya digital dan berbasis teknologi. Segmen pasar utamanya Bank Jago adalah masyarakat kelas menengah dan mass-market, seperti usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM) dan ritel (konsumer) baik secara konvensional maupun syariah (financial.bisnis.com).

Pada Desember 2020, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) melaporkan bahwa tren adopsi bank digital di kawasan Asia Tenggara meningkat karena penetrasi internet yang tinggi, adopsi perilaku konsumen ritel, dan keterbatasan yang muncul akibat pandemi COVID-19. . Berdasarkan survei BCG yang dilakukan di 30 negara pada tahun 2020, nasabah bank ritel yang menjadi responden mengaku lebih sering menggunakan layanan perbankan online untuk beradaptasi di tengah pandemi. Dalam beberapa kasus, sejumlah bank juga menutup dan membatasi layanan kantor cabangnya, serta mengarahkan nasabah untuk mengakses layanan digital (idtechinasia.com)

Untuk bisa terus berkembang, masih ada beberapa tantangan yang dihadapi bank digital. Pertama, belum adanya aturan terkait bank digital. Inilah tugas yang sedang dikerjakan OJK.
