One of the biggest railway project in Indonesia, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project by PT. Kereta Cepat Indonesia Cina (KCIC) has drawn a lot of attention from various parties since the beginning of the process, including students. This project became a place to learn for Civil Engineering students of President University who visited one of the high-speed railway points, the Walini Tunnel in West Bandung Regency (21/1).

In this visit, students learned the latest technique in constructing Indonesian railways, namely tunnel construction. "Considering the geographical feature of Bandung which consists of hills, a new breakthrough by building the Walini tunnel located in a tea plantation certainly becomes a valuable lesson for students who are also studying Train Engineering in the class," said Rianto Adji, one of the lecturers who accompanied the students.

Field Coordinator of PT. KCIC Adisaputro R. D. explained the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project plan to students, the starting point and the endpoint of the high-speed train route. Students were also invited to visit Walini Tunnel directly and see the construction system.

The students who took part in this field trip said they were happy because they not only learned calculations and theories, but they got a direct opportunity to see the construction of the high-speed railway project.

"I learned a new thing, this construction is dangerous because it is related to nature. I also learned that the geological conditions and natural phenomena that had previously arisen in the area will influence the tunnel construction process," said Vania Edwina Sihotang, a Civil Engineering student who became the participant of this field trip.

President University hopes this first-hand learning experience will give students a broad idea about railway construction. (SL)

Mahasiswa Teknik Sipil President University Pelajari Konstruksi Proyek Kereta Cepat Jakarta-Bandung

(SL)
