Friday (12/11), Dr. Jeanne Francoise, lecturer of the International Relations Study Program, President University (PresUniv), was a speaker in a general lecture on Warisan Pertahanan (Defense Heritage) dan Pandangan Agama terhadap Defense Heritage. This general lecture was organized by Pengurus Besar Pergerakan Mahasiswa Islam Indonesia (PB PMII) and conducted online. The Grand Imam of the Jakarta Istiqlal Mosque, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, MA., and the General Chairperson of PB PMII, Muhammad Abdullah Syukri, were also present at the general lecture.

Jeanne explained that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) gives countries the freedom to define their respective defense heritage. According to her, “The value of defense heritage does not have to be universal but supports the national interest of the nation concerned. The ideal conditions are to have a narrative of the history of the nation's struggle, be known by the surrounding community, and if possible preserved by the government." Jeanne also said that if you want to research defense heritage, you can do it from various points of view because it exists among other sciences (multidisciplinary), such as defense science, culture, politics, and even religion.

Jeanne continued, defense heritage in Indonesia is not only in the form of forts but also in houses, streets, areas, even pesantren. For example, said Jeanne, “In November 1945, Pesantren Modern Gontor was once used as a resting place for General Sudirman's troops. This pesantren is also a temporary logistics warehouse during the preparation of Tentara Keamanan Rakyat against the British and their allies, known as the Battle of Ambarawa.” (Gilang Suryanata, PR team.
