According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the number of stock investors during 2020 reached 1,695,268 single investor identification (SID). This is an increase of 53.47% compared to 2019. However, the increase in the number of investors is not accompanied by an increase in public knowledge about investment. There are still many novice investors who do not understand the basics of the capital market. In the end this greatly affects economic conditions.

This condition made Eko Ganiarto, a lecturer at the Faculty of Business, President University (PresUniv), interested in researching. The title of his research, The Difference In Perceived Risk Of Investment By Gender Among Novice Investors: Before and During the Covid-19 Pandemic, won 2nd place in a paper competition organized by the International Conference on Family Business and Entrepreneurship 5th (ICFBE), Tuesday ( 26/10).

Eko's research aims to find out whether there are differences in the perception of investment risk between male and female novice investors, both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. So far, male investors are generally more willing to take risks, especially before the pandemic. "Analyzing the difference in perceived risk between the two is interesting to study, because it determines investment behavior," said Eko. The results of the study indicate that the differences do not show differences in investment decisions. This is because the pandemic is a special condition that makes the economic situation unstable, thus making both male and female investors afraid of the magnitude of the risk.
