On Friday, March 15, 2024, the International Relations Program, Faculty of Humanities, President University (Presuniv), organized a guest lecture featuring Admiral Prof. Jayanath Siri Kumara Colombage, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia and ASEAN. The guest lecture, titled "Blue Economy: Sri Lanka’s Cooperation with Indonesia," was held at the Charles Himawan Auditorium, 5th floor of Building A, Presuniv Campus on Jl. Ki Hajar Dewantara, Kota Jababeka, Cikarang. The event was attended by Presuniv Rector Handa S. Abidin, SH, L.LM, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Dr. Mohammad Syafi’i Anwar, and Chair of the Master of Law Program Dr. Dr. Fennieka Kristianto, SH, MH, MA, M.Kn., as well as hundreds of students from various programs.

In his opening remarks, Handa mentioned the close relationship between Sri Lanka and Indonesia. "For example, there are street names in Sri Lanka that resemble those in Indonesia. Also, there are several Indonesian descendants living there," Handa stated. Meanwhile, Syafi’i Anwar noted that the blue economy has become a global issue. "The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has developed a roadmap to consolidate policies, programs, and a series of activities involving various stakeholders. This roadmap will guide Indonesia in building a sustainable marine economy," Syafi’i emphasized.

During his lecture, Prof. Jayanath highlighted, "Seventy-one percent of the earth is ocean. Furthermore, 90% of the earth is water, whether in the form of rivers or lakes or the sea. Unfortunately, we are only familiar with the land." He continued, "We often hear about the Green Economy, but we lack understanding of the Blue Economy, which involves the sustainable exploitation of marine resources. It is this lack of understanding that puts our coral reefs at risk. Marine pollution is occurring everywhere. Ships are dumping oil into the sea. It's saddening that the younger generation cannot appreciate the beauty of the oceans on Earth," he expressed. (Graciella V, PR team. Photo: Graciella V).
