On Wednesday, 30 August 2023, President University (Presuniv) received a grant for an artificial intelligence (AI)-based earthquake early warning device as well as post-earthquake health monitoring of building structures from P-Waver. The signing of the grant was carried out between the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr.-Ing Erwin Sitompul, M.Sc., and Dr. Pei-Yang Lin, CEO of P-Waver, and witnessed by the Rector of Presuniv Prof. Dr. Chairy. The signing process was carried out in the Conference Room, Building A, Presuniv Campus at Jababeka Education Park, Cikarang, Bekasi. This device grant was initiated by Prof. Ika Bali, Ph.D. as the Head of the Earthquake Engineering laboratory. P-Waver is a provider earthquake technology and solution from Taiwan.

According to Dr. Pei-Yang Lin, P-Waver spent decades developing an AI-based earthquake early warning system (EEWS) and structural health monitoring (SHM) system. "This system will provide an early warning, through an alarm and light, before people feel the shaking of the earthquake, so they can seek shelter. After the shake, SHM will provide assessment of the structural safety according to the seismic sensors on the building. People can be evacuated immediately if the assessment result is dangerous," said Dr. Pei-Yang Lin. He said again, "It is an honour for P-Waver to be able to donate this device to Presuniv.”

Prof. Chairy welcomed the grant. For Indonesia, which is often hit by earthquakes because it is in the ring of fire zone, this early warning device will be very useful for the community. This device now adds to the complete equipment in the laboratory of the Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Presuniv. (JB Susetiyo, PR team. Photo: JB Susetiyo).
