On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, the Institute for Research and Community Service (Lembaga Riset dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat or LRPM) at President University (Presuniv) held a training session for lecturers on Competitive Proposal Writing Techniques. The training was held in Room 429, Building A, 4th floor, Presuniv Campus at Jababeka Education Park, Kota Jababeka, Cikarang, Bekasi. The training materials were delivered by Prof. Dr. Drs. Saryono, M.Sc., professor of biochemistry and molecular biology from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Fakulas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam or FMIPA), University of Riau, who is also a research reviewer at the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service (Direktorat Riset, Teknologi dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat or DRTPM) and Productive Innovative Research (Riset Inovatif Produktif or RISPRO) at the Education Fund Management Institute (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan or LPDP).
Saryono said, "As much as 70%–80% of the research conducted by universities is basic research. Now the government is changing its policy. Every research project now must have benefits for society." So, continued Saryono, there must be downstream research, not just upstream. This change must be accommodated in research proposals made by lecturers. Saryono then explained in detail the change in policy and the need for lecturers to follow the guidelines and research requirements set by the funder, as well as the importance of each research scheme having its own characteristics.
