What's happening in PresUniv

Why do we need English? It is the international language and can act as bridge to understanding language. For example, when we go to Thailand and do not understand Thai we can’t communicate directly. On the other hand, Thai people do not understand Indonesian. So, we need a language that can bridge the gap and allow us to communicate with each other, namely English. In addition, many companies require a minimum standard of English language proficiency, either TOEFL or IELTS standards, when recruiting prospective employees. Moreover English is the medium of communication in the International world of work and proficiency allows one to interact widely with the global community.

That was Aaron O'Brien's explanation at the Pre-University 2022 event entitled Your Best Career Awaits you held at the President University Convention Center, Thursday (25/8). Aaron is an influencer from Australia, who is actively providing education about English in a millennial style. Pre-University is an event organized by President University (PresUniv) to welcome new students. On the third day of Pre-University, Aaron presented material about How to Be Consistent in Learning English. This session was guided directly by Ani Pujiastuti, Ph.D, Head of the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program, PresUniv.

In learning English, Aaron suggests learning vocabulary first rather than grammar. "Start by learning and using the vocabulary that is around us," he said. Aaron continued, this is like building a house. Vocabulary is the brick, while grammar is the cement. “So, we will use the cement to put the bricks together into a sentence. Both work with each other. But remember, the first thing to learn is vocabulary,” he explained. (Gilang Suryanata, PR team. Photo: Gaby)
