Dr. Jeanne Francoise, the lecturer from the International Relations Study Program, President University (PresUniv), became a speaker in at the roundtable discussion organized by Dewan Ketahanan Nasional RI (Wantannas RI) at the Wantannas office, Jakarta. The discussion entitled Optimization of Utilization of Defense Heritage as Literacy of National Insights to Enhance Nationalism for the Young Generation in the Context of National Resilience was held for two days, 19th-20th July 2022. This discussion was led directly by Brigadier General Yudha Fitri. Wantannas RI also invited the leader of government officials from 15 ministries and high state institutions.

In the discussion, Jeanne said that defense heritage is a new concept. “This concept gives important meaning to the perspective of the struggle of the people who come from the colonized countries. How is the struggle of the people against colonialism, and the process of state and national development towards independence. Each country has a definition of defense heritage and the relevant time period,” she explained. The period of defense heritage in Indonesia, said Jeanne, was from 1511 to 1949. "This is also known as Menjadi Indonesia," she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Yudha concluded that although the two-day meeting had physically ended, discussions were still ongoing. “Wantannas RI supports that defense rights can be recognized nationally in Indonesia, with clearer regulations and proposed to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Of course, we must be flexible with programs by matching existing programs from all ministries and stakeholders," he said. (Gilang Suryanata, PR team. Photo: Jeanne)
