What's happening in PresUniv

Published: 26 Nov 2021

Tuesday (23/11), the Student Affairs Bureau, President University (PresUniv), held a discussion with the Indonesian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Dr. Arief Rahman, MD. The discussion was carried out in a hybrid. A limited number of participants attended the Conference Room, PresUniv campus, at Jababeka Education Park, Jababeka industrial area, Cikarang. Meanwhile, other participants attended online. During the discussion, Ambassador Arief Rahman explained Indonesia's Role in Maintaining Peace in Afghanistan. The discussion was guided by Dr. Endi Haryono, M.Si, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, PresUniv.

Afghanistan is called the "heart" of Asia because of its position in the middle of Asia. Arief Rahman said, “If you want to be the ruler of the world, rule Asia. And Afghanistan is important because that country is the heart of Asia.” So, it is not surprising that some countries, such as Rome, Turkey, Mongolia, Britain, the Soviet Union (before it broke), China, including the moguls from India, and the United States, wanted to control Afghanistan. However, all failed.

Since January 15, 2021, the Afghan government has been controlled by the Taliban, calling itself the Emirat Islamic Afghanistan (EIA). According to Arief Rahman, EIA positions itself as a defender of the poor from corrupt rulers. "They want to build an inclusive government and make Afghanistan an open, modern country, and ready to cooperate with any country," said Arief. In this context, Arief continued, Indonesia can play an active role in building an atmosphere of peace in Afghanistan through soft power diplomacies, such as cultural diplomacy and a heart-to-heart approach.
