Internship students are expected not only to pursue grades, reports, or final project materials but also to gain experience in the world of work and know their dream career. This was emphasized by Naila Velleyati from PT PINS Indonesia, a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia engaged in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. Naila was one of the speakers in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held by the Internship & Career Center (ICC) Bureau for Management Study Program, Wednesday (17/11). This FGD was also attended by other speakers, namely Rosalia Tyas, Talent Acquisition & Development PT Supernova Flexible Packaging, Irene Friska, Group Learning and Development Manager Sheraton Grand Jakarta, and Romanus Angga, Recruitment and Employer Branding Manager, Ajaib.com, who is also an alumni of Management Study Program, PresUniv.

One of the topics discussed in this FGD is the profile of graduates that companies need for the next two-three years. According to Irene, for the hospitality industry, graduates need to have multiple competencies and a good attitude. “In the hotel industry, having one skill is not enough. Should more. As an illustration, I am not only teaching training or taking care of internships, but I am also required to be able to serve visitors, such as at breakfast buffets,” she explained. Irene continued, graduates must also have a good attitude, and it can be seen from the way they communicate with seniors or when they collaborate with other people.

According to Rosalia, there are four soft skills needed in the manufacturing industry: communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. "Communication ability is not only to deliver messages but prioritizes win-win solutions, so that good teamwork is formed," she said. Rosalia continued, all of these abilities can be learned. Meanwhile, Romanus said, startup companies need someone who has the ability in career development, leadership, and is highly innovative. In addition, continued Romanus, “Experience is also important, in addition to the GPA. This experience can be gained from participating in organizations, associations, or internships in accordance with their fields." (Gilang Suryanata, PR team. Photo: Doc. ICC)
