What's happening in PresUniv

Published: 27 Aug 2021

The best way to learn English is with the learning by doing method. That is why President University (PresUniv) implements a 100% English lecture system. However, not all students are fluent in English. To help the new students of PresUniv batch 2021 become fluent in English, the Pre-University program on day 3, Wednesday (25/8), presented speakers who shared tips on how to master English. They are Yasser Muhammad Syaiful, Country Head at ELSA (English Language Speech Assistant), Ani Pujiastuti, Ph.D., Head of Center for Language and Culture (CLC) PresUniv, and Dennis Danish or commonly known as Guruku Mr.D, a YouTuber from Los Angeles, United States of America.

In this event, PresUniv introduced students to ELSA, an application that helps users improve their English skills and even practice five aspects, such as pronunciation, word stress, listening, conversation, and intonation. Yasser explained that at ELSA, students could access a curriculum that they can arrange according to their respective English levels. In addition to explaining ELSA, Yasser also shared four things that can help in mastering English: preparing suitable learning strategies, making yourself familiar with English, practicing consistently, and evaluating the results of learning strategies. “So, the most important thing is to train consistently. If students know what the purpose of learning English is, they will be motivated to practice consistently,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ani Pujiastuti and Kimberly Golda introduced CLC PresUniv. CLC is a platform to help PresUniv students learn languages, especially English. CLC offers one-on-one tutoring, namely private lessons with tutors at CLC for writing, listening, speaking, and reading, as well as translation and proofreading services. Then the event was continued by Guruku Mr.D, who was welcomed enthusiastically by the students. Mr.D is very popular because he actively educates many people about English through his exciting content. In this event, he invited PresUniv students to dare to speak in English and not be afraid to make mistakes. “Even native speakers can be wrong. So, the most important thing is that students learn from these mistakes," he said. He also explained that the accent in English is not very important. As long as students can talk in English and can be understood, that is enough. (Steven Chaniago, PR team. Photo: Steven)
