What's happening in PresUniv

Work safety is everything in every business. Especially for high-risk businesses, such as geothermal or geothermal-based energy businesses. Why? Because in its business process, geothermal uses radioactive materials that can threaten the safety of workers. To find out career prospects and aspects of work safety in this business, last Friday (9/4) President University (PresUniv) held a webinar with the theme "Occupation Safety & Health (OSH) in Geothermal Industry" with the speaker M. Rikcy Pratama, SKM, M.Sc, AFOH, HSE Supervisor from KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd.

Geothermal is a renewable energy source and does not emit pollutants, such as CO2, NOx or Sox. Geothermal vapor will turn into water which re-enters the ground. Some of the OHS issues related to geothermal are drilling (drilling), related to electricity, failure of the pressure system, release of H2S, related to construction, communities, and confined spaces. Ricky explained, there is a hierarchy of control in the geothermal industry, such as personal protective equipment, administrative control, engineering control, substitution or replacement of hazardous materials / processes to harmless ones, and eliminating hazards physically (eliminating hazardous materials).

Currently, more than 20 countries have used geothermal energy as a source of electrical energy. Indonesia has 40% of the world's or the largest geothermal reserves. Even so, in terms of geothermal-based electric energy production, Indonesia is still in 2nd place, losing to the United States. To be able to have a career in this industry, Ricky said, we must be prepared to face dangers at any time, ready to work unusual hours, such as four weeks of work and two weeks off. "Indeed, working in the geothermal industry is very challenging," said Ricky. (Lita Gabriella, PR team. Photo: Lita Gabriella)

Ltd.
